As Mormons believe in continued revelation, they are chosen by devine revelation.

The Mormon hierarchy has the "First Presidency" at the top. It is the Prophet (also called the President of the Church) and two counselors (generally chosen from the 12). Under them is the Quorum of Twelve, which is always filled to have 12. All 15 are considered "prophets, seers, and revelators", but only the President receives doctrinal revelation for the entire church and is considered "The Prophet".

>So the 12 Apostles are men and they choose the next Prophet? Then 'Prophet' is just a title as the new Prophet has not been divinely chosen or exhibited signs of being a prophet, correct? I'm just trying to get a realistic grasp of the process. It is somewhat confusing due to the 'assumed' meaning of 'apostle' and 'prophet' and that not being the case here.
