Skipped in late in this thread, so perhaps was already checked:
Assuming that perhaps code on the parent controls / form level seet a control.Readonly = .t. or Control.enabled = .f.
have you checked both properties in the debugger when form is active ? have you verified the control gets focus and when is left with a positive by logging ?
