Back then it wasn't a matter of style - it was THE style. Real Fox programmers knew only the four letters and didn't give a virtual punishment about the rest. There was so much code to be written and so little time to guess whether subs() should expand into substr() or substring(). Nobody really bothered to remember that.
But that was FP, FPD.
Nowadays, I'm so glad we have Intellisense :).
