Please check out the free utility filemon from sysinternals (www.sysinternals.com) to monitor the file access. You'll be able to see what particular file access is getting slow. As mike suggested it might be that VFP is reading from the EXE on the network that slows things down, but it could be a whole series of other things too.

Filemon, will exactly show what files are read from the network, how many bytes and how long it takes. It is a very usefull tool also to determine SQL statements that are not optimizable.

You can learn an awfull lot about how VFP (and other applications as well) is accessing resources.
