I mean I would like to browse a table from the command window and see the actual field name on the column header instead of the caption that we set on the database for each field. Most often I need to know to name of the field I'm looking at, but the header contains the caption we've set for it.

on key label "f2" wait window varread()
This one is easy for command window.

Gil,
Try it. It would present you the fieldname in a wait window (you may change it with something like set message to varread() so it's displayed in statbar).
