FWIW, I read your message out of context because Kevin linked it. That said, I find lots of behavior on the UT (and in some, but not all, of the other online venues I visit) childish.
I think there's a place for profanity and I've been known to use it myself. But it loses it power and utility when used all the time, plus it offends people, so they don't listen to one's ideas.
As you know, Mike, you're the same age as my elder son. When he was a teen, he made a point of using profanity often for the reaction it brought. But now, at 25, he understands that he's more credible when he limits the use of that kind of language. In almost every situation, a strongly-worded opinion that doesn't use profanity is much more powerful than one that does.
