I use 2 spaces for my tab, others use 5, some 4. Yes, they WILL line up eventually - and make almost everyone coming after you crazy when they have to modify that section.

People tend to type in patterns, most tend towards the xspace=spacey, not necessarily xtabtabtabtabtab=spacey - you got me hitting the damn tab key, why are you switching to the freakin' SPACE key?
