That has been the history of immigration in this country (which has in turn been the history of our country). Every new wave -- Germans, Swedes, Irish, Italians, Greeks, hispanics, etc. etc. etc. -- arrives, assimilates, and then wants to pull up the drawbridge behind it. Many of the most adamantly anti-immigrant people I know in the current debate are part of earlier waves. I almost always keep my mouth shut but am tempted to ask them if their people came over on the Mayflower. Or were Native Americans.
>You do of course. I'm just pointing out that when policies are put into place, good or bad, we have to live with them. They affect everyone differently - some more than others.

>You wouldn't believe the number of illegal immigrants I know here that want our borders closed now and they want illegal immigration stopped. They want free medical and food stamps and a guaranteed job. they want their families to join them here. Just for themselves though. They don't want it to continue on for any of their fellow countrymen. They want citizenship but don't want to pay for anyone else to enjoy the same after they do. It seems that many want the 'American Dream' but they don't want to pay for it either.
