It's looks complicated

Every customer has id (six digits) in table.
Each one has a duplex personal card (filled with the cusumer handwriting).

I have to scan the personal card (both sides) and inserting the pictures to sql.
I have a duplex scanner.

Here is the problems:
For example cards ids range that I have to scan is 352001-353050.
The scanner keep the files a01,a02,a03,a04.... - (a01 is the 352001 front card side and a02 is the rear 352001 card side, a03 is 352002 front..) I cant change it.

Now, I need as following:
combining each two pictures to one new picture and saving the new picture with the customerid.
So a01&a02 will be one picture file name is 352001.
If the combination impossible I agree to something like this: a01=352001A, a02=352001B, a03=352002A.


PS
If I lost card and I have to scan from 352027 to 352045 , the scanner will save it again 01.. I cant tel him to start counting from 27 but I can clean the directory and to start 01 for every new scan.
