I would say it is more 'state of mind' that USA got herself into, then real threat You are facing. Everybody has enemies and friends in life. That is life.
When someone start to feel that living in a bunker and sleeping with a gun would gratly improve his personal security, then he was either doing some really bad stuff himself and/or messed with some very very bad people;
Or his state of mind is kind of *problematic*.
[This is figurative speech, don't jump the gun :) ]
In this case, truth just might lie somewhere inbetween.
