Here's a follow-up, again from Rick, sent yesterday:

Nasty flame wars break out all over on numerous forums, but in my opinion, the people on the UT have a true hatred for each other, and the vocal minority seem to make it miserable on a regular basis.

Hatred?

I'm not sure how anybody could draw such a conclusion having visited only a handful of times this year to post advertisements for a user group, but again it seems not to be a necessary part of the underlying message and does seem somewhat negative. One might also observe that if some people want to find "hatred" or "negativity" there are far better examples closer to home, the results of which I believe are still being felt.
