I was on another forum this morning and there was a message asking what to do in the future for development tools. The poster's clients were asking for their apps to be rewritten in something other than VFP in the future. Interestingly, there were many suggestions, dotnet was suggested a couple of times. No one got angry or defensive about it. It really was a discussion and not an argument. I'm not entirely convinced that the negativity which appeared here periodically was entirely due to the message but just as often to the reaction to the message. I think there is quite a bit of over-reacting here sometimes.

>I do not agree with closing the chatter forum. It is not the forum that causes friction, it is people. Members need to apply some self control and have some consideration for others. This is not just a technical forum but also a community - at least I think it is. The chatter forum is not the problem.

>>Hi Michel,
>>
>>Thank you for your answers.
>>
>>Below I'll put some new ideas that came to my mind...
>>
>>
>>I truly understand that the nature of UT is commercial.
>>Being commercial, I think it does not change anything, unlessyou see that those users from the Chatter bring you some real benefits in their payd subscriptions.
>>
>>If this is not the case, I do really think that the chatter should be closed definitely.
>>
>>I totally agree with you that UT can become a great resource for many technologies. The interface that you developed here is really very nice, and will work for everybody.
>>
>>But the agressions that we've seen recently are responsible for the "Dark side". And unfortunately, seen as an outsider, I don't think it's totally unfair.
>>
>>I've read Rick Schummer's posts in PROFOX, and I have to say that he's not being that agressive against UT. MY INTERPRETATION is that on the contrary, in that thread, he's one of those that says that you can find many good things here, although he does not like the posture that some members take. And you said this in different words before.
>>
>>
>>So, after thinking of all these things that happened in the last months, I would recommend to you to definitely close the chatter forum.
>>
>>Of course, discussions about VFP, conferences, etc are most welcome.
>>
>>AND in the same time, I'd ask you to concede a FULL AND COMPLETE ANISTY to all manned members. I think that this is really reasonable. Look, I think that those super agressive and disrespectful messages came from the "chatter", that used to accept people to say whatever they wanted, with no law. Law used to be applied only when things went too far. But IMO, things went too far because they had too much freedom to post any thoughts they wanted.
>>
>>A simple private message to all members telling that some rules were changed, and the chatter is closed, bla bla bla, bans were removed, will possibly bring all the strength back to UT, in the new limits.
>>
>>WOthout the chatter, things may be much better here... Maybe ?
>>
>>Regards
>>
