Did I miss something? Isn't that also what she was asking for? If not information directly, then a link to where she could read the information for herself?

I do not know if you missed something, but I most certainly think that I must have < s >. The response that you quoted was one that I made to Mike Cole when he started teasing me about posting links to other sites and telling me that I might get banned for it. My response dealt only with the issue of posting links to other sites. It has nothing at all to do with any questions that Naomi had asked.

It would have been much more polite to simply point her to a beginning book online she could purchase or even a website, white paper, or blog that contained the information for her.

I think that the very important issue that was made by both Paul and Perry (among others) is that no one is going to learn .NET just by asking questions on a forum. They both recommended that Naomi find a good beginners' book on the subject and I do not think that it was a bad recommendation. Sure, I learned VFP by trial and error, but VFP is much smaller to tackle than .NET. It was painful enough to stumble around in the dark trying to figure things out when I was learning VFP. I am not anxious to repeat the experience in learning .NET.

Which beginners book to recommend? There are dozens of them and there really is no best one. I like "Programming Microsoft .NET" by Jeff Prosise (ISBN 0-7356-1376-1) but it was written for .NET 2002. So it does not cover a lot of what is current, but I think it is pretty good in covering the concepts. Visual C# 2005 Step by Step is also pretty good and I also use Programming Visual C# 2005: The Language as a supplemental reference.

Having written all that, I do agree with Andy's blog :o) Although, I think this situation was not the same at all.

I did not post that link in reference to Naomi's questions. It was a direct response to Perry's comment that being able to ask questions on-line was too easy and caused some people not to be motivated to seek out answers on their own. I thought he would enjoy the read since it seemed to coincide with what he was saying. It was in no way a comment on Naomi.
