I've always taken issue with this interpretation of Robin Hood. The way I interpreted the story is that Robin Hood gave the money back to the people who had it stolen by a corrupt government. He did this until the rightful leadership was returned to power.
The idea of 'stole from the rich and gave to the poor' is a bastardization of the story meant to encourage class warfare.
