I tried your suggestions and they work but now I'm faced with checking the first half of the issue. The fox2x files all have a code page of 1252 (windows Ansi).

How can I differentiate between an FPD/FPW dbf as opposed to a VFP dbf??

Cpdbf() returns the same numeric for both
