>Good question. They were both watching reflections in the punched-out keylock so at some point Anton must have been in eyesight of that. Maybe in the next room/behind that grille near the floor? I saw the movie twice and I'm still not sure.

>IIRC at least one of them called him "b*t*h". Besides, they both knew about the busted drug deal and that there was money in play. Maybe just cleaning up "loose ends".

>>What happened to the money? Anton wasn't carrying a case when he left the car accident.

>IIRC the Mexicans who killed Llewelyn in the shootout at the motel (and drove off wildly just before TLJ showed up) took it.
I am not sure about the first one, either. I saw the second one the same way you did and for sure you are right about #3. The whole plot was triggered by the money and I don't think we even knew the characters who wound up with it, other than that they were Mexicans who heisted it at the motel.
If you are a Coen brothers fan, weren't some scenes very similar to ones in "Blood Simple" and others to scenes in "Raising Arizona"? Not excessively but I would have recognized it as one of their movies even if I didn't know.
Cormac McCarthy's next book, "The Road", is also being made into a movie and is even bleaker than this one.
