Hi Chris,

I hope this reply will not be misconstrued as spam or a vendor praying on posts (although in some ways it probably could be, but that is not how it is intended). If the post is removed I understand. I'm the R&D Manager and an engineer for the product I'm about to mention.

Depending on your situation you may want to check out Advantage (http://www.advantagedatabase.com). If you do not have a lot of installations and the data migration (from dbf to sql server) is not a concern, then I think moving to SQL Server is a fine idea. If, however, you have quite a few installations and are now going to have to install sql server and migrate each installations data Advantage may add some value. You can work on the modifications to your application first (converting to remote sql access) and leave your data alone. You will still get client/server data access, but with your existing dbf tables. If later you decide Advantage is not for you, your application is most of the way there already, you just take the final step and convert the data on the back end.

If you're interested, I did an interview on the FoxShow where I talk about this sort of migration:

and this is a simple getting started example:

I appologize if this post is against the rules of conduct on Universal Thread. I'm new to the community and truly just trying to help and provide another option to consider.

J.D.
