Clinton vs Obama: The Ordaned vs. the Inane.

I am starting to get the feeling that McCain wins against either in the fall.

>Actually Sinbad, who was on the plane with her, pointed it out weeks ago. Bill Salmon last night talked about her claim of being under fire in a town where he and a huge press-corps were living at the time (oblivious to whatever danger she thought she was in) Her claims to be deeply involved in the Irish peace process have been widely ridiculed by Irish participants.

>Dick Morris's book 'Rewrting History' is as clear a summary as I've ever seen of Hillary. Obama may suffer from the wide-eyed innocence of his supporters, but compared to the cynicism of the Clintons he's a breath of fresh air.
>
>I think that amazingly enough the Democratic party may have once again snatched defeat from the jaws of victory by not only having an internicene blood-bath but by having it between two people who would either be easy targets between now and November.
>
>Sad really. i think the country deserves better. If they had figured out how to run somebody like Bloomberg as a Democrat this would have been an interesting election that may have been about something other than style vs substance.

>>I haven't had time to read many threads today, so maybe someone else already posted this, but I saw on the news this morning how CBS called out Hillary on her lie regarding her trip to Bosnia when she was first lady (how's that for a run-on sentence?). They are milking it for all it's worth. I think it may be far more damaging than the pastor issue with Obama. She may just have tanked her candidacy... I think Obama just guaranteed the Democratic ticket.
>>
>>To be fair, I think talk radio pointed out the discrepancy in her story last week but the general media didn't pick up on it until this week.
>>
>>
>>>>Think about this, Tamar. Obama seems to be following the mold of Jimmy Carter
>>>
>>>This is a point worth raising. One of Obama's foreign policy advisors is Zbigniew Brzezinski. Any friend of Israel should find that disconcerting, but it is also very unsettling when one thinks about Brzerzinski's statements during the Carter era that the expansion of the Soviet empire was probably historically inevitable and the best we could hope for was to slow it down.
>>>
>>>Fortunately Ronald Reagan and Bill Casey didn't believe that for a minute.
>>>
>>>History has already delivered the verdict on that one.
>>>
>>>
>>>
>>>who thought he could talk his way out of all geopolitical issues. His dealings with Trujillo in Panama were a disaster and I don't have to mention the Iran hostage crisis and the paralysis in the Carter administration during that, do I?
>>>>
>>>>Obama might be, hell, probably, is the smarter of the two. I'll grant you that. OTOH, where is your evidence that McCain would get us into another war? It seems to me that he's more likely to keep us OUT of war as foreign leaders will be acutely aware that all options are on the table with McCain. I'm not convinced that under any circumstances that Obama will start firing, even when "firing" is what's called for. If he runs, and wins, as the vociferous anti-war candidate then the pressure will be on him to avoid military confrontation at all costs. This is as precarious a position as the opposite is.
>>>>
>>>>We have avoided wars in the past not by pacifistic appeals to foreign reason, but by staring down potential enemies with steely-eyed resolve. Witness Nixon's backdoor threats to the Soviets during the '73 Arab-Israeli War. Kennedy's intransigence during the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.
>>>>
>>>>Let's look at other historical outcomes. Vietnam was a disaster because we vaccilated between fighting and not fighting. We had the tactical will but not the strategic courage to either fish or cut bait. Korea became a decades-long stalemate because we were concerned with escalating a confrontation with China. Tens of thousands of people died in Hungary in 1956 because we were unwilling to commit to our principles.
>>>>
>>>>Don't forget George Orwell's quote, "People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf". It's true. The world is a rough place.
>>>>
>>>>
>>>>>>See, here's another argument: In a crisis do you want touchy-feely Obama (giving him the benefit of the doubt) or crusty old McCain who, as recently as 2002, was still not trusting the Vietnamese.
>>>>>
>>>>>Absolutely Obama. I'm terrified that McCain will get elected and get us into yet another war. I want the smartest guy, and the one who's willing to look at things from all sides, not just start by firing.
>>>>>
>>>>>Tamar
