Actually you can use almost any program from your USB stick, including Registry entries, COM, Activex etc.
Search on google for THINSTALL. This actually works. It is a system for virtualisation of applications.
To make sure that Thinstall gets everything, I use a Virtual Machine to do the install under Thinstall. That way I can be sure that I will catcj everything. After that it is up to how you set up the Thinstall to run off the USB.
I have a set of apps that run exjavascript:MessageSubmit()
