In a small test app it works fine even in 2 nested reads, but not in my app. Can anyone give me any info that might help me figure out why I can't get currobj to work? TIA

Not real sure what you mean here Ed. But in this situation my calls to _curobj are made with On Key Label. In the code for the keystroke I call _curobj. It refuses to work no matter what I do. Before when I was having problems I was calling _curobj in a valid(didn't work there either. I've done a few different test code apps and it works fine there. I'm wondering if a VFP setting screwes up _curobj (i.e Set safety on/off, set deleted on/off, etc..)
