There are a lot of factors that could affect SQL Server performance. RAM is probably number 1. After that I would make sure you have a good sized swap file and that your hard drive is not too fragmented. Disk speed could make a difference, too. A SCSI drive will give you much better performance than IDE.

>Dropping the /P did not help. But I found that after starting mssqlserver from the DOS prompt I can access SQLServer from the icon. One strange thing: I'm running it on two seperate workstations. Both have NT 4.0, of course, and are about the same speed 200 CRX and a 233 Intel. It runs MUCH faster on the 200. I guess I still have a lot of work to do.
