>Thank you all for your input. By the look of it, Rick, your system looks like the best. I will have to try it.

>Pertti - please tell me more about the DaaS you mentioned. Are you referring to an application server like Citrix?

No, I'm using GoGlobal (www.graphon.com), which is kind of like Citrix except much easier to configure and maintain, and you can link it directly to a given program/exe, so that the end-user gets his/her VFP app login screen as soon as he/she types in the web address of your server.

I have figured out how to best host VFP apps on this system, and I can cram in about 50 concurrently running programs on a fast Win2003 server with a bunch of memory and disk space until the server starts slowing down. The server is in a secure location on a server farm, behind Cisco firewalls, virus and spam filters, etc, and it is screaming fast (due to single-purpose server and virtually no network traffic)

Since I've figured out how to best do this service with VFP, I am actually thinking of opening up a DaaS server for fellow VFP developers. The hosting cost per port (concurrent user) would be around $600/year, with a $200 startup fee per concurrent user (our cost of opening a new port).

If you want to see out try out our application on the server, go here for instructions:

http://www.northernlightssoftware.com/galaxytestdrive.htm

and follow the simple one-time browser setup instructions. This will then get you onto our service, which actually is a VFP6 application shown inside the browser. Note that if you have dual monitors, you will need to resize the screen once or twice. This will be taken care of within a few days, so that dual monitor systems work without the additional resizing hazzles (this is a problem with Citrix, too, and when I last looked at it they still haven't addressed the problem...) To give you an idea of the speed, this demo system has over 40,000 transaction in it, and if you go into the account screen or run a report, all of those transactions tend to get filtered, analyzed, sorted, etc.

Let me know if you might be interested in this type of service. The fee structure sure beats renting or co-hosting your own server on a server farm...
