I listened to most of it. I'll listen to the rest later. I heard a little too much God for my liking, and I heard a little too much stereotypical mythology about welfare than I'd have liked. The idea that everybody is on welfare because they "want something for nothing". He speaks of them as entirely homogenious groups, which of course, they aren't. And he makes it sound so simple to fix. Now I agree with him entirely about education and about teaching people to become as self sufficient as possible, but he talks about how people of all cultures have risen, and he's right, until he makes the connection that they have raised their cultures with them. Sure many blacks, natives, etc have made it, but I sure don't see that they've pulled their respective groups up with them. He's being just a bit too simplistic.

Now, as I said, I haven't listened to the whole thing yet, and maybe he'll change my mind, but I don't know from what I've heard that he isn't still the emotionally petty man he once was. Until that time, I still say he doesn't beling in politics.

Maybe his best role is as a political gadfly.

>Did you read or listen to his speech? I don't think it's always a good idea to throw the baby out with the bathwater... :o)

>>>Couldn't agree more. He was a lightning rod in the early nineties and vilified because he actually had ideas. A genuine intellectual who is well-versed in history and is a very big picture thinker. Don't agree with him on everything, but he's sitting right between Krauthammer and P.J.O'Rourke at my fantasy dinner party <s>

>>I seem to recall that one of his intellectual ideas was to bring the government to a grinding halt because he didn't like his seat on Air Force One. This man does not belong in government.
