Hmmm... You sure the designer loads when it's hidden? If I set it up like above and then close and reopen the solution when I open that xaml file it comes up xaml only, if I then switch to the design page it says "Load Canceled" and I have to click resume loading to see the design. Load times for the XAML seem about the same as a theme file that's about the same size, and about the same as loading the file as XML.

But I could be totally wrong about this, I don't have any gigantic XAML files to test with so I may just not be seeing it.

Off topic... but just thought I'd comment. I've been plowing through your "Linq to SQL DataContext Lifetime Management" http://www.west-wind.com/weblog/posts/246222.aspx post today really enjoyed it, learned a lot from the code samples too. Great Work! Thanks!!
