The so-called war against terror should not be used as an excuse to commit human rights abuses, however, the U.S. government has done so.
For example, there are several hundred people detained in Guantanamo, who may, or may not, be terrorists. So far, there has been no due process, so there is no way to know. These "maybe-terrorists" have been detained for years now, without even being able to see a lawyer.
This could happen to anyone, whether there is a real connection to terrorism, or not.
