Note : Purely anecdotal evidence ahead

I'm not sure about dollar for dollar, but as a percentage of income or total wealth, I'd agree. Back in high school, we would go on can food drives a couple times a year. I noticed then that the poorer the neighborhood, the more giving the people were. Some would nearly empty their cupboards of canned food.

>I agree. We have to bite the bullet for the political fiascos of our administration (as we do for the previous administrations). Everyone typically claims it is not the people of America they hate, but the actions of our government. If that is true, then they should be fully cognizant of when our people do stand up. It was estimated that dollar for dollar, the poorer in this country give more than the rich which is interesting.

>>You beat me to it. I remember the tsunami very well and part of what I remember is how much money poured to relief funds from Americans. Just a few months later, we did it all again when Katrina hit. I don't remember how much the U.S. government contributed (nor am I sure this was a U.S. government responsibility) but orginary citizens contributed plenty.
>>
>>Yes, we have lost some stature the past few years with the torture and arrogant ways. But those were the actions of an incumbent government and are therefore correctible. The American people have a generosity I will defend to anyone.
>>
>>>You must be referring to the U.S. government since Americans were donating immediately. Is the below website all lies?

>>>Granted, he should have spoken publicly sooner, but the U.S. was acting. Keep in mind that the United States provided $2.4 billion in food, cash, and humanitarian relief to cover the disasters for that year which amounted to 40 percent of all the relief aid given in the world that year

>>>>Hmmmm, I remember the tsunami at xmas 2005 (?).... Your country certain was not quick to provide a massive amount of help. I remember that bush waited a long time to promise a relative low amount for help.

>>>>John, it only takes a critical look arround. If you go arround the world and look at how people look at your country and the way they live, you might get a better understanding. Too many americans are living in a bubble believing that the american way of living, culture and economy is the world standard. There is a whole world outside of the US that has a total different view on those matters.
>>>>
>>>>I don't hope for the american people that the euro is going to overtake the dollar as the worlds trading currency, because then the US will really have to do something about their trade deficiency in stead of just printing billions of additional dollars. The US will not be able to pay anything anymore and certainly will lose its role as superpower. Its fate is in the hands of asian and middle east countries. If the OPEC is going to decide to use the euro for their transactions.....
