>>As for the individual countries. The Dutch government has donated 200 Million Euros (this excludes private donations) for the tsunami. Compared to the population of the US (about 17, 18 times as much) the US contribution significantly less.

>>I regulary see claims made here that the US is a country that gives the most foreign aid, but if you look at it per capita this is simply not true. In fact it looks rather pale to see what the US government spends on forreign aid. http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0930884.html .I think that we all should take our hat off western europe and Norway in particular.

>If your country was devastated, would you want to worry about how much a country gave, per capita, or how much the check was? Hmmm, I think you want the fattest check you can get. The US gives out money to countries all over the world, not just when there is a disaster. Personally, I think we should take care of ourselves, before we go fixing things around the world. We've got people who need help in our country, and once their situation is fixed, we should help others. Not until. But, since they haven't YET made me king, I guess it is what it is.(G)

I agree, the US should take of care of the victims of katrina...

on the other arugment... I really don't care about whether I get one fat check or multiple small ones. I'd care about whatever gets me the best overal results.
