Isn't it odd, though, that a basic premise of your country is that debate about anything (almost) is such an important right? Resentment seems to violate the principle.

The main thing that amazes me is that virtually every American will argue vehemently that not only do they live in a "democracy" but that it is the best democracy in the world. As proof it is offered that they have "regime change" by voting, not by the gun or a coup or...
From here it looks like your "democracy" has branched wildly and resembles a "democracy" only in that you do vote unhindered. But voting is but a small part of real "democracy". All the other bits have long ago disappeared from you system.
