I'm still wondering why Obama has to be identified as the black candidate (and Hillary as the woman candidate) instead of the Democrat candidates.

>>>Because I want my rights protected and yours and everyone else's.
>>>
>>>I've seen too many Americans do too many horrible things to have the blind faith you seem to be suggesting. For whatever reason, the one that comes to mind immediately is Bull Conner turning firehoses on peaceful demonstrators. We certainly do _not_ have a history in this country of equal justice for all, even though we profess it.
>>>
>>>The whole point of civil rights and due process is to protect the rights of every individual so we can be sure that our own are protected.
>>>
>>>As for "people who want you dead and are actively working on making you dead," how do know that applies to everyone in Guantonomo if there's no process for presenting and supporting the charges?
>>>
>>>Do I think that all those in Guantonomo are terrorists? No way. Do I think some of them are? Sure. It's up to the government to prove their case against those who are and to release those who are not. Anything less diminishes this country.
>>>

>>Agreed 100%.

>>Re equal justice, I was a bit disheartened by a news story on cnn.com this morning saying 76% of Americans think we are ready for a black president. This was spun as a good news story -- look how far we've come! Maybe it does represent some progress but I don't think it's such good news when you look at it the other way around. It means 24% think we aren't ready.
