>>>Oh Oh Oh, I know, Memphis!
>>
>>Whoops!

>>I still can't believe they let that game get away. It was almost Greek tragedy in a way, though, wasn't it? Their one big flaw, free throw shooting -- which they had done well throughout the tournament after a poor regular season -- caught up to them at the very end. That and not being heady enough to foul at the end before a 3 point shot could be launched.

>Actually, Cal told both Rose and CDR to foul, Rose tried to defend, and did bump the guy, but the refs didn't call it.

>I thought Cal showed a lot of class after the loss. Looks like he has matured a lot since the early days. I would have loved to see them win the game, but you have got to be proud of their accomplishments anyway. They are still the winningest team in history, for 1 season with 38 victories.

They were a very good team, no question. I discounted them for quite a while because of their conference but they were the exception that proves the rule.

Re the 38 wins, not taking anything away from it but I was getting tired of hearing that stat. It's a bogus statistic IMO given how many more games teams play now. In UCLA's heyday they played maybe 25 regular season games, no conference tournament, and 4 in the NCAA tournament. I don't think anyone would seriously suggest Memphis (or anyone else this year, or this decade) was better than them. They just play more games.
