Tracy! Shhhh!!! <g>

Ahh, I see... So THAT's why you have returned from the Isle of Man.

Warning: Short political history follows:

Ahvenanmaa's semi-autonomy was about the only thing the League of Nations (which morphed into UN later on) was able to agree on. And that was only because nobody objected (except the island's residents, of course -- they wanted complete independence...). Way to go, democratic process...

Today the islands are part of Finland, but not "really" part of EU, although Finland is. Why would that be? Probably so that the many passenger ferries running between Finland and Sweden can stop there in order for the passengers to be able to buy tax-free booze. So, if you take THAT cruise, make sure the damn ferry makes a stop in Ahvenanmaa (and make sure to set your alarm clock, since those ferries usually touch down in the middle of the night, and you gotta be at the ship's liquor store while it has dropped its anchor. If you miss your chance, you will be back to the somber high alcohol tax areas again before you know it)
