Jim,

How's your health? better than yesterday and not as good as tomorrow I hope ;-)

The use of Vista SP1 has been the worst experience I had with computers in a long time. I wonder how MS is going to fix this mess. First they'll have to release something else. SP1 is a definite no-go for me. And when they release it I will wait a bit before jumping on this new fix. In the past I almost always worked with the following rule "If it ain't broken don't fix it". My Vista was doing fine but still I installed SP1. Why? because they said it would be faster. To me that looked like a fair deal. Now I'm wondering how bad this SP1 is for others.

>Hi Denis,
>
>There's only 1 reason that I have VISTA (with SP1) on my laptop (only) - when I bought this system it came with the VISTA "Express Upgrade" to VISTA business edition (XP Pro was installed) and it arrived 4 months later and I was convalescing from a major operation and it was something to do.
>I had no CD for the XP Pro (it was on the HD, hidden somewhere) and and the VISTA install came with many 'pre-steps' to do thing to the manufacturer (ACER) software components, so I have no idea how to uninstall or reinstall VISTA either!
>
>After SP1 my system slowed down too, but I attributed that to a warning by MS that the ReadyBoost would have to be invalidate and rebuilt.
>Well, after more than a week it should be re-build by now yet it is still slower. But I'd say mine is about 10% slower than SP0.
>Right, that isn't good enough, especially when MS had a big list of changes to supposedly make it faster.

>>I talked (in person) with a MS representative and he told me why my computer would be the problem <g>

>>From their side it seems that everything's ok. Buuuuttttt before speaking with that representative another MS rep said that there were issues with SP1.
>>
>>At least it's easy to remove it and get back to the prior version
>>
>>So even if I had MAJOR problems it should'nt stop anyone to install it.

>>>Denis,
>>>
>>>I always do a complete system backup prior to installing anything major. If I want to get rid of the (major) installation, I boot via the vista CD and do a complete system restore (C:). I do keep my stuff on another partition
>>>
>>>Why is it so slow ? Sure MS would know if the sp1 cuts down the speed to 10%
>>>
>>>Maybe I'm lucky - tried to install SP1 but my computer doesn't show it (I have to find out why)
>>>Need SP1 for the xamlPad - I believe
>>>
>>>Success - buy a USB drive to do a complete system backup

>>>>

>>>>available no more. To me that does'nt make sense. But then again logic tells me that if MS posponed the retirement of XP to june they can change their minds again.
>>>>
>>>>The way I see things we're in big trouble. It tells me that we'll probably never have again a very trustable OS. Vista SP3 will be rock-solid but we probably won't be able to enjoy it for long because it's days will be counted because "OH-WOW! (Operating system Hey! - We Own the World" will have been on the market for six months.
>>>>

>>>>
>>>>And to me there's too many things in their OSs. Here's my definition of an OS. "A piece of software that eases the interaction between human and computer". Nothing more nothing less.
>>>>
>>>>Where does solitaire fit in that definition? From day one the games should have been a separate download. There are probably other things that should have been available as separate downloads.
>>>>
>>>>By the way what is the release date of Vista SP2? <g>
