Always good advice. Upgrading an OS is just asking for serious trouble.

That said, I upgraded my laptop from XP Pro SP2 to Vista Ultimate the day after it was released on MSDN. Aside from problems with my A/V software which was supposed to be Vista ready but wasn't, the upgrade was painless. That upgraded installation is still my primary computer and works well (well for Vista that is - it doesn't crash at least). I had verified with Dell that my laptop was Vista ready or capable or whatever they called it at the time before I did the upgrade.
