>What, we had to hugely subsidize ethanol from corn when there were better options?
When I heard of biofuels eight years ago, it was about recycling old no-more-edible oil from restaurants as biodiesel. "And if you feel the fries from the exhaust of the bus in front of you, that's because it IS running on fries... or oil where they were once fried".
When we heard this "we will burn oil so we could produce ethanol from corn" a year ago, we (wife and I) both said that this is nuts, and will cause the price of food to rise, because almost
all food here is based on corn one way or another, be it the starch or the sugar or the meat grown on it. This is not a surprise at all, we knew it in advance, called it insane and dangerous from the outset. One should follow the money - some friend of the house is making huge bucks on this. And should probably be "the first against the wall when the people rise" (Douglas Adams).
All of it just to keep the SUV viable? I'm already seeing fewer of them on the road. Parked, yeah, but not moving as often.
