For printing in text mode, you may want to take a look at my reporting class (with text mode and Excel capabilities), download #9991. However, I don't know whether the particular problem you mention would be solved, since I also use "???". I thought that the page advances only when sending a chr(12) (Epson printers), but I am not sure.

One thing you might do is define a shorter page length: send codes to the printer to define the page-length at 3", 6", or whatever.
