>It's an intriguing concept. I wonder if I would use it, though. (Just speaking hypothetically -- I have a practically new Samsung that I am happy with). When do you find yourself turning the monitor?

Only once. Then it stays that way.

Just for kicks, I turned my 19" CRT... and for some reason it required immediate degaussing, but then it worked as fine as it can (at RG and no B). I was a bit worried about the ventilation, but then it didn't really accumulate much dust over the years as I thought it would, and the airflow was impeded by the motherboard stretching almost over all of the bottom of the casing, so the current layout may even make it cooler. Anyway, even if it breaks now, I can say I don't care - it's really old, barely functioning.

My impressions after a few hours: I like it this way. My 1440x900 is on the left and actually more to the center, and the 1024x1280 is to the right, with a tall page of text that I don't need to scroll to see. When I put the debugger there, it all fit better than in landscape. There's also more space on top and bottom edges for smaller window bits (chat windows, playlist, email) that I can click without having to grab them on the toolbar to activate them. And guess what, even more space on my desk (will be available when I kick this mastodon and get another slick LCD).
