Just because they managed to be *illegally* in the US when they had kids doesn't mean the kids have to stay here.

The kids have the same rights as any other citizen even if it seems convenient to trample their inalienable rights. By all means change the laws to stop it continuing- many nations are considering that. But a citizen is a citizen. Who will be next if decent people start to accept that "all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others?"

It's a real problem and there isn't an easy solution. The cheapest solution probably is to stop future automatic citizenship just because you were born on US soil and to assist the existing citizen kids of the underclass to get educated and become productive consumers and taxpayers. Sure it sticks in the craw to "reward" people who flouted the law, but the easy answers cost more and create a resentful underclass- just what you need, right? ;-)
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
