My client has 2 sites. On in W and one in N. They are about 20 km
apart. They run a Novel 4.1 network, and the server is situated in W.
In N there are 2 stations and a printer connected to the server in W via
a PC Anywhere (DOS). The lines now have a throughput of 9600. It is
slow, but it is workeable for what is needed.
The problem is that they need to increase the hardware in N (at least 1
station and printers), so it seems logical to install a server in N.
They also run a standard package in DOS and my programs in FPD.
At first view, we could link the 2 servers with ISDN at 64kb. Apart
from budgetary considerations, would that be comparable in speed with PC
Anyware that only has to refresh the screens, albeit at 9600baud?
The client wants to expand the installation in N, but at minimal cost,
since this situation is not definitive. In less that 2 years the whole
operation is going to move to N, so whatever we do now will not be
necessary anymore.
Any shared experience, or leads as to where to start looking would be
highly appreciated.
Regards,
Marc
