I am with Chase also and did not know that. I only have one regular payment that is done by physical check, not electronically, and it's for about 30 bucks a month, so I haven't paid any attention to the float on that one.

>In Chase any payment where physical check goes out by mail requires 5 bussines days and money are deducted from your account at least 7 calendar days (5 bussines days) before delivery date you specify.

>>24 hours if you elect to do it via bill paying at your bank. Seconds if you go to the payee and submit it via their system. Although I've noticed that some don't process online payments immediately and when you choose the date for the payment to be processed, the earliest they will allow is 2 days from the current day. That is a limitation of the specific payee though and not the bank. In most cases, if I want to, I can pay immediately if I go to the payee's site and submit it there and see it annotated both there under my account information and in my bank account online.

>>Perhaps Wachovia hadn't finessed their system when you were using it? The only ones that take time are those where an actual physical check goes out. For example, I send a check to my mom every month and it takes 4 days to mail. Yet I pick the day of the month I want it delivered and that is the date that it is deducted from my account. Somehow, she has always received it on that day. I can see it categorized as 'processing' 4 days earlier and from that point on I cannot cancel or change it (probably because the physical check has been created and is either mailed or in the process of being mailed).
