>>>>>>I certainly wouldn't go as far as saying he can't win. He's still the favorite IMO. The Democratic dustup has given McCain a free pass for a few weeks now but he will face his own scrutiny before this is over.

Look at the groups he is having the most trouble winning over -- white, less educated, rural, older. To the extent that racists are still among us, that's exactly where you'll find them.

>>>So you don't have a problem with whites supporting a white candidate, right? Not racism.

>>>Glad you agree.

>>I think you are astute enough to understand I was saying some voters are voting against Obama -- or for anyone but Obama, if you prefer to look at it that way. All the other candidates are white.
>>
>>The Onion had a good line in a recent installment of their "man on the street" commentaries on current events. After an opinion poll showed McCain drawing even with Obama, one of the (ficticious) panelists said, "Americans are getting harder and harder to predict when they start supporting a white male for President." LOL
>>
>>If you think there aren't voters who are against Obama because he is black, then we disagree. The voting patterns suggest otherwise. And I predict we will see the same thing in Indiana. I know and like a lot of people from Indiana, but IMO it has more than its share of rednecks. At least that's been my experience.

>And if you think there isn't a large chunk of Obama's supporters that are voting for him solely because he is black, you are deluding yourself.

I agree there are some of those. More or less, who knows? What I find discouraging is that there are still people who will vote against someone because of the color of their skin. It seems like as the possibility of Obama actually winning this thing became stronger, some people started thinking "Holy crap, we're going to elect a WHAT?!"

Maybe it's just the human condition to be suspicious or hostile towards those who are different. How far have we really advanced from tribal times?
