My guess is they're doing someting similar to SQL Server. A free version that doesn't have all the bells and whistles and if you the really good stuff, you have to pay.

>I'm not sure what SUN is doing. First, it tells the world that it will support Postgres and then buys MySQL. What's that about? Then at the recent conference tells the world a new version is coming but the free version will not do all the new tricks. Again what's that about? Did they change MySQL as we know it or didn't they? SUN purchased a company that made money by selling commerical licenses for their product. So is SUN changing the way they market the product or did they just not get the message across correctly. After all SUN stated they would not change the license. I'm very confused by SUN's actions.
