>If your business model runs that way, then that's great. Whil Hentzen tried it a few years ago and couldn't make it work. He still does Fox work today. But do you really want a clear leader? One that can totally mandate everything? You say you want one, but you don't like Microsoft, Sun, or Apple. I prefer an open market where the consumer can dictate. That's what happened with BluRay and HD-DVD. It wasn't Microsoft's fault that HD-DVD didn't make it. They pushed it hard, but consumers went a different direction

Actually I like Microsoft don't think much of SUN or Apple as companies. But I do like OS X.

I had forgotten the phone - good point. However, I own one and to be honest it's not the best (HTC win6). Hoping for an update soon.

Whil was way before anyone else. However, today I think it's a different story. Linux can compete in the server area. Postpath does everything Exchange does. Zimbra has a better interface than OWA. Currently I run linux as the host and add VMware guest to run MsSQL servers at my location. I get more out of my hardware that way.

But your point is well received - that linux was not a money maker for Whil. I have been making money with linux but will it last - hmmmm. So far the demand has be good for linux servers for the last 8 months. Postgres is paying off. But I keep still my VFP clients. Ed Leafe and Paul McNett are making money with linux/python. Ed leveraged his skills into Rack Space using linux, postgres and python. Paul has a commercial python product that's paying the bills (but I think it mostly runs on windows). Of course there is IBM which claims 100's of millions from linux.

BTW are you sure windows still has over 90% of the market? How do you account for the wall street journal reporting that Apple has doubled it's sales and linux continues to take more of the server market.
