The Encyclopedia Britannica defines socialism as a "system of social organization in which property and the distribution of income are subject to social control rather than individual determination or market forces"

This is exactly what they both propose in many policies. Health-care, environmental regulation, windfall tax increases, price fixing, energy regulation, education and so on.

Don't get me wrong, McCain is pretty socialist in some of these as well, but let's not pretend these people are looking to the market to solve anything. They're all looking for government imposed, regulatory solutions.
