Around here there has been a lot of publicity about it being the 100th "anniversary" of the last time the Cubs won the World Series. For some reason, some are taking this as reason for optimism. It's been 100 years so now we're due? I don't quite get that. More like overdue IMO, or maybe there's a reason the Cubs haven't won in 100 years.

Before the season the Tribune had a quiz section consisting of 100 questions, mostly trivia, commemorating "100 years of ineptitude." My favorite was kind of a trick question. It asked who the radio announcer was the last time the Cubs won the World Series. Answer: nobody, radio had not yet been invented.

And Yankees fans complain that they haven't won it in 8 long years....
