>>Around here there has been a lot of publicity about it being the 100th "anniversary" of the last time the Cubs won the World Series. For some reason, some are taking this as reason for optimism. It's been 100 years so now we're due? I don't quite get that. More like overdue IMO, or maybe there's a reason the Cubs haven't won in 100 years.

>>Before the season the Tribune had a quiz section consisting of 100 questions, mostly trivia, commemorating "100 years of ineptitude." My favorite was kind of a trick question. It asked who the radio announcer was the last time the Cubs won the World Series. Answer: nobody, radio had not yet been invented.

>Sometime last season, the Phillies became the first professional sports team to reach 10,000 losses. Oddly enough, the team didn't do anything to commemorate the occasion <g>, though the fans did.

Probably booed, if their reputation for being a tough crowd isn't ficticious <g>.

I was surprised to see that a Phillie (Philly?) is leading the majors in homers -- and it isn't Ryan Howard.

My Brewers are muddling along at .500. Surprisingly, iffy hitting has been a big factor. That and the LUNATIC OFF-SEASON DECISION to make Eric Gagne their closer. He blew his fifth save of the young season yesterday.
