I think the MySQL guys suggest that linux out performs windows on some task. From what I have read the difference is very small (not worth the switch). But it is suggested that if you know an OS stick with it because trouble of trying to tune it correctly. Of course there is a linux distro that makes the claim to have been tuned for MySQL (I think it's Yorper).
