>>Latest news is that Microsoft wants to buy FaceBook. I don't remember how many billions it would cost them.
>>
>>I don't get it. I'm not on FaceBook nor do I plan to be on it.
>>
>>Why would it worth that much money? I mean it does'nt cost a thing to be a member of FaceBook right?
>>
>>To me this is another one of those time wasters on the internet. Why would I want people I don't know know stuff about me. I simply don't get that frenzy over FaceBook.
>>
>>Can anybody explain what's going on here? Apparently I don't get it and I'm wondering what's the big deal here.

>Both my kids (25 and 22) are on Facebook and it's a _big_ thing in their social circles. I've actually watched groups of college kids sit around with their computers and have an interaction that involved Facebook as well as conversation.

>Facebook is how they keep in touch with their friends. In some ways, in fact, it's like the Chatter section here. It lets them keep people up to date, share ideas, etc., etc.

ok I understand but why would it be worth that much money to MS or any other company interested in buying it?
It's free and I guess It'll remain that way for a long time.
MS would get many personal informations. That I understand. And from those informations MS would be able to advertize their apps with great precision. Is that the only reason justifying those billions?
