UPDATE. I guess I figured this out - OP - original poster.

I was just contradicting Dragan's statement. At least in my tests for the Word document file the properties were preserved by e-mailing. So, it could be that some files preserve these properties and some don't, we need to find out which and how.

For adding custom properties for the DOC files programmatically I already provided a link in my other message in this thread.
If it's not broken, fix it until it is.
