Energy costs and consequences have been in the news a lot lately, yet the so-called solutions offered ignore the past and offer more bad policy which will result in even higher costs.

There is legislation in the works which will have detrimental short and long term effects on our ability to keep up with growing demand by creating an awful cap-and-trade system. Terrorist funding by Chavez is likely to lead to sanctions and dry up another source of oil in our own hemisphere. Demand by China and India are going to continue to increase as their citizens demand more energy as their economies expand. Those who think the price of oil has peaked are not looking at all the facts.

Newt is again offering obvious and popular solutions.

Of course we must keep things in perspective, after all while we bitch about $4/gallon gas, we say nothing about the following per gallon prices of the following common items:

Evian spring water $6.40
Budweiser $8.88
Hershey's chocolate syrup $13.23
Jamba Juice $21.82
Red Bull energy drink $30.69
Tabasco sauce $94.46
black ink from an ink cartridge $2,701.52
insulin (Humulin L) $9,411.76
LSD $122,880.00
Thailand cobra venom $152,835.82
scorpion venom $38,858,507.46

OK so maybe the last three aren't that common. ;)
