Since you copied me on your reply to Perry, I will say for the record that I do not think racism is the predominant motive of those who want to do something about illegal immigration. My reason for disagreeing with them is I think it flies in the face of our history and self-image as a welcoming nation. All of us other than a relative handful of native Americans came here from someplace else. Yes, most came legally. But I submit that this is a unique geographic situation, with a poor nation literally sharing a border with us. Of course they come across! Why wouldn't they? I would. You would, wouldn't you?
